Biography

 
 Gabriela Coufalová (b. 1978), studied early music theory and performance (Renaissance and Baroque recorder) at Masaryk University in Brno, in the class of Susanne Wagner, and Music Education and German Language Pedagogy at Palacký University in Olomouc, where she has also received a doctorate in Music Theory and Education. Between 1997 and 1999, she taught the recorder and transverse flute at the Primary Art School in Letohrad; from 2002 to 2004, she taught German at the Language Preparation Centre of the Faculty of Education of Palacký University in Olomouc. Since 2005, she has worked as a lecturer in music history and theory at the Faculty of Music Education of Palacký University in Olomouc. She has written the monograph Ať život náš jest harmonií.../ Harmonie sei unser Leben..., dealing with the musical culture of the Sudeten Germans in East Bohemia (Ostrava: Repronis, 2012), and other studies focused on this subject. In 2017, together with Vít Zouhar, she published the book Milý příteli Bureši: Dopisy Bohuslava Martinů Miloslavu Burešovi / Dear Friend Bureš: Bohuslav Martinů's Letters to Miloslav Bureš. In 2019, also together with Vít Zouhar, she published the book Milý Miloši: Dopisy Bohuslava Martinů Miloslavu Burešovi  and also the English version of this book Dear Friend Bureš: Bohuslav Martinů's Letters to Miloslav Bureš. Since 2004, she has worked on the Different Hearing programme, dedicated to children’s elementary composing in the classroom, within which she has published several specialist texts and participated (together with I. Medek and J. Synek) in the monograph Different musical instruments. Non-traditional use of traditional musical instruments and creation of simple musical instruments (Brno: Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts, 2013). Since 2009, she has collaborated on the preparation of the critical edition of Bohuslav Martinů’s correspondence.
